22nd Dive Against Debris

We removed 11 pieces of debris weighing a total of .75 kilograms from Shangri-la Marine Sanctuary off Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines.

This dive was mostly for off-gassing. I had just done my first dive to 40 meters, so even though we did not exceed our No Decompression Limit (NDL), I decided to follow it up with a shallow fun dive using an oxygen-rich nitrox blend.

For some reason, the shallow area of the sanctuary seemed unusually polluted. In fact, I mentioned this to a few other divers, and they said that they, too, seem to be recovering more debris during their dives.

I also retrieved some fishing line, which is disturbing since, as far as I know, fishing is not supposed to be happening there.
