15th Dive Against Debris

We removed from Shangri-la Marine Sanctuary 6 pieces of debris weighing a total of .2 kilograms. SMS is off Mactan Island in Cebu province, Philippines.

This was actually one of my Stress & Rescue ocean dives, but in between my instructor and “victim” throwing curveballs at me (a separate blog article), we found some debris that needed real world removal from the seafloor.

I’m not the only diver who has noticed an increase in trash. I have to take an informal survey of others, but I’m noticing more trash by the beach area.

The good news is that I am going to start targeting the beach area for cleanup, because I think the pier side has more conscientious diver traffic and, therefore, stays cleaner.
